Two different
motor packages are available with your Creek Boat.
The standard
rheostat motor and a digital version.
Regardless if you purchase a rheostat or digital, each
motor package
features a MotorGuide 54 lb thrust
motor. The most powerful 12 volt unit that MotorGuide
has.
Other features include a stainless steel shaft
and an all-metal transom mount for strength and stability.
The transom
mount can be tilted and the depth of the lower unit
can be adjusted quickly according to the depth of
water.
The lower unit of both feature a built in weed ring,
extended skag, and a 3 blade Machete prop for quiet,
weed-free
performance.
The basic difference between the Rheostat
and the Digital motors is how efficient the power
is used from the battery.
|
The Rheostat motor draws
full power from the battery even if you have it on
the slowest
speed setting. The rheostat located in the control
panel is getting rid of the excess power to regulate
the speed
of the
motor.
The
Digital
motor has circuitry built into the lower motor unit
that only draws the amount of power needed from the
battery. The difference in the two motors is not
in the control panels. If you have
a rheostat motor, you can not just
change the control panel and turn it into a digital
motor.

Digital Control |
Rheostat Control |
If you plan on using the motor a lot, traveling
a long distance to get to where you are going or in swift
moving water, you should concider a digital motor. If
you're in a pond or small lake and most of the time your
sitting still, then the rheostat motor will probably
do just fine.
How much longer battery life will you gain
by using the digital
motor?
There
are no "hard
numbers" saying
it's 3 times the battery life or so, but people that
have used the motor report a substantial difference. |
